Once you go gray or silver, the one word that plays on repeat in your mind and when you see your stylist is How Do I Keep My Silver Bright or How Do I Whiten My Gray/Silver. As you know from my YouTube channel, I try many hair products to find out what works and what doesn’t. If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that I posted in my Stories a couple of months ago that Shu Uemura sent me their new brightening hair collection called Yubi Blonde I have been using it ever since. In my package, I received the Yubi Blonde anti-brass purple shampoo, Yubi Blonde Glow Revealing Shampoo, Yubi Blonde Replenishing Conditioner, and the Yubi Blonde Anti-brass purple hair mask. After the first wash with these products, I noticed my hair was whiter. Normally I can’t tell until I dry my hair but right when I stepped out of the shower and looked at my wet hair in the mirror, I noticed how white my silver was.
“Going Gray is a bold, fierce, unapologetic choice that I decided to make in my 30s. The beauty industry needed a wake up call and it was time women disrupted the narrative about gray hair.” Nikol Johnson
I went to get my hair cut by my stylist Michael last week, and the first thing he said to me what “Wow, your hair is so white. What are you using?” This just confirmed what I thought was happening using the new Shu Uemura anti-brass collection. Not all purple shampoos are created equal, and I have experienced this for years. I have been using purple shampoo since I had my white streak back in 2010 and I still love Phyto’s purple shampoo. Needless to say, I can spot a good one when I see one. What makes Yubi blonde anti-brass purple shampoo different is it’s enriched with cool violet pigment, an exclusive Japanese technology, neutralizing brassiness, and unwanted yellow tones. It’s infused with Japanese white peony to condition hair while adding a natural glow.
I do a double cleanse with the Yubi Blonde glow revealing shampoo first and the Yubi blonde purple shampoo after every 4th day. I only wash my hair one to two times a week, depending on my photoshoot schedule. I find that if I wash my hair more often, it dries out my hair, and it’s clearly not a good look to have dry gray hair. The Yubi Blonde glow revealing shampoo is also infused with Japanese white peony. This shampoo gently cleanses my hair and gives hair a glowing finish. The secret sauce is after the double cleanse; I use a new salt scrub called Solu Sea Salt Scrub Cleanser for my scalp that I received from Sakara. If you haven’t seen my Sakara posts, you are missing out; Sakara is a holistic, organic meal service that I have been doing for over a month (Save 20% by using Code XONIKOL). They had a special menu called Eat Pretty for March, and your delivery of meals came with some great clean beauty freebies. This is how I was introduced to my new favorite scalp salt scrub. The sea salt scalp scrub refreshes my scalp and removes impurities, product residues, and polluting particles. It gives texture to my hair and keeps it clean longer—Winner Best Clarifying Treatment 2020 by Women’s Health. I am in love with how it smells, and it’s obtained with 100% clean energy, zero impact, essential and recyclable packaging.
The Yubi Blonde purple anti-brass hair mask is the deepest rich purple I have seen so far in hair masks. Creamy and ultra-hydrating I apply this to my hair and leave it on for 1-2 minutes but be careful you don’t want to leave the mask on too long and get a hue of purple to your hair. I am thrilled with how bright my silver looks this spring; I will keep the Shu Uemura on rotation for my hair care routine. I feel that’s the secret of gorgeous hair pay attention to how your hair is feeling and pick products in your lineup accordingly. Finding the right hair care that works for you takes time, especially when working with gray/silver hair. It has been a journey, to say the least, watching my dry-dyed hair leave and the new fresh, healthy silver arrive. One big aspect of using this new collection is that my hair feels hydrated and glossy. Two key words I always look for when I am testing out new products.
